About The Calcutta High Court
The Calcutta High Court is the oldest High Court in India, established under the Indian High Courts Act, 1861 and inaugurated on 1 July 1862. It sits on Esplanade Row West, Kolkata, and has jurisdiction over West Bengal and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
The Court works through an Original Side — civil suits within the ordinary original civil jurisdiction, company, admiralty and testamentary matters — and an Appellate Side, which hears appeals, writs, criminal matters and revisions from across the state.
