What you need before you search
Any one of these will find the case:
- The CNR number — the 16-character code printed on notices and orders. This is the fastest route, because it is unique across India.
- The case number — the court, the case type (W.P., O.S., Crl.A. and so on), the serial number and the year.
- A party name — yours, your company's or the other side's — plus the court and the filing year.
- An advocate's name, to list every matter where that advocate is on record.
Step by step
- Open the search box on this page and pick the kind of detail you have — CNR, case number, party name or advocate.
- For a case-number or name search, choose the court type (High Court / Supreme Court, District Court, Consumer Court or Tribunal), the state, and the court.
- Enter the details and press Search. Partial names work — "Sathya" matches "E. Sathyapriya".
- Open the matching case. You will see the parties and their advocates, the current stage, the judge or bench, the next hearing date, and every hearing so far with what happened at each.
- Track the case to receive a WhatsApp alert two days before each hearing and the moment a new order is uploaded.
What the status fields mean
- Stage / purpose — what the court will do at the next hearing: "For appearance", "For arguments", "For evidence", "For orders".
- Next hearing date — the date the matter is listed next. Courts can change this, so a tracked alert is safer than a diary entry.
- Pending — the case is still before the court. Disposed — the court has passed its final order (see the guide on what "disposed" means).
- Judge / bench — who is currently hearing the matter. Bench changes are common after rosters are revised.
- Business / daily order — a one-line note of what happened at a hearing, and the order passed that day, if any.
How often the status updates
Courts usually upload the day's proceedings and the next date within 24 to 48 hours of a hearing; scanned orders can take a little longer. The record on Libra mirrors the public eCourts data and is refreshed daily. If your hearing was this morning, expect the new date tomorrow rather than immediately.
Why a case might not show up
- The name is spelled differently in the court record — try a shorter, partial name.
- The wrong court type, state or filing year is selected.
- The case was filed very recently and has not yet been published to eCourts.
- The forum is not on eCourts — a few tribunals and specialised forums publish elsewhere.
Common questions
Is it free to check court case status online?
Yes. Searching and reading any case — parties, stage, hearing history and next date — is free on Libra Case Tracker and needs no login. Tracking with alerts and the ₹99 advocate consultation are optional paid services.
Can I track a case without the case number?
Yes — search by party name with the court and the filing year, or by the advocate's name. The result page shows the case number and CNR so you have them for next time.
How do I know the next hearing date of my case?
Open the case record: the next hearing date is shown at the top, with the purpose of the hearing and a countdown. Track the case to be told on WhatsApp two days before the date and whenever it changes.
Is Libra Case Tracker the official eCourts website?
No. Libra is not affiliated with the eCommittee, the Supreme Court of India or services.ecourts.gov.in. It presents the same public case data in a simpler format and adds alerts. For certified copies and official use, go to the court or the official eCourts portal.
