What you need
- The name of any one party — petitioner, plaintiff, complainant, respondent, defendant or accused. A partial name or a surname is enough.
- The court type and state, and the court if you know it. Without a court, the search covers the courts in the state you pick.
- The filing year. The eCourts party-name search requires it, so if you are unsure, try the most likely year and then the years either side.
Step by step
- Choose Party Name in the search box on this page.
- Pick the court type — High Court, District Court, Consumer Court or Tribunal — and the state, then the court if you know it.
- Type the name as it appears on the petition. Use the spelling the court is likely to have; "Sathya" will match "E. Sathyapriya" and "Standard Chartered" will match the bank's full name.
- Select the filing year and press Search.
- Open the matching case. If several share a similar name, use the case number printed on your own notice, or the other party's name, to tell them apart.
Why results can be wrong or missing
- Spelling — court records follow the petition, which may use initials, a different transliteration, or a maiden name.
- Year — a case filed in December 2024 and registered in January 2025 is a 2025 case.
- Wrong court type — a cheque-bounce complaint is a district-court (magistrate) matter, not a High Court one.
- Name searches return every party with that name, so a common name in a large court returns many results. Add the year and the court to narrow them.
Once you have found the case
Note the CNR shown on the case record — it is unique to that case and makes every later search instant. Then track the case to get a WhatsApp alert before each hearing and when a new order is uploaded, so the name search is the last one you have to do.
Common questions
Can I check case status by name without the year?
The eCourts party-name search needs a filing year, so the search here asks for one. If you are not sure, try the most likely year first and then the years either side; the case record shows the exact filing date once you find it.
Can I search by a company name?
Yes. Type the company name as it appears on the filing; a distinctive part of the name is enough. Bank and NBFC recovery matters, for example, list the lender as petitioner or complainant.
Will a name search find cases in every court in India?
The search runs per court type and state, so pick the state where the case was filed. Searching by CNR, once you have it, finds the case regardless of court.
